Hi! My name is Shelly Kessinger, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Friendswood, TX 77546. I specialize in marriage and couples counseling, and I have 11 years of counseling experience.
I have always been passionate about relationships and communication. My parents divorced when I was a young child, and I often wondered why do some couples stay together and some couples don’t? What started as a childhood curiosity led me to my life’s work as a counselor.
For college, I went to the University of Texas at Austin, and I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology in 2006. In 2007, I went to graduate school at the University of Houston – Main Campus. And in 2009, I received my Masters of Education in Counseling degree.
I have studied the Gottman Method, Emotional Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I pull from these different methods in my counseling style.
My counseling style is friendly, non-judgmental,
professional and solution-focused.
I love working with couples. I love teaching communication skills and identifying the unhealthy patterns that are hurting the relationship. I feel incredibly honored to hear my clients relationship histories and then to see the positive transformations.
I am married with 2 kids. I have been with my husband for over 13 years which has absolutely helped me learn the importance of communication. In my free time, I enjoy reading books, watching documentaries, going to church, gardening, and spending quality time with my friends and family.
Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions about marriage counseling, couples counseling, or relationship counseling. My counseling office is located in Friendswood, TX 77546 but is accessible to Pearland, Clear Lake, Bay Area, Webster, and League City neighborhoods. I offer telehealth (online counseling through Zoom) and in-person counseling (on Saturdays).
